Hanneriina Moisseinen:
Transcience
6.2. - 20.12.2026
This exhibition combines käspaikka cloths from Riisa’s collection that were brought into Finland by refugees from Karelia with others sewn for the cartoon installation The Cloth Road (2013). The latter represent part of the contents of Hanneriina Moisseinen’s cartoon book Father, which is based on the real-life inexplicable disappearance of her father.
One of the most recent exhibits on display here is The Ceded Areas (2024-2025), which comprises a series of cloth handkerchiefs on which Hanneriina Moisseinen has embroidered by hand the names of the parishes surrendered to the Soviet Union at the end of World War II.
Hanneriina Moisseinen (born 1978 in Joensuu) is a cartoon artist engaged in doctoral research at the Academy of Fine Arts, Uniarts Helsinki. She has won several awards, including a State Prize for Cartoon Art.
This exhibition has been supported by the Riuttu Foundation, Pamaus ry, and the Finnish Heritage Agency.
